Growth vs Fixed Mindset

...and some simple ways to inspire your child!

· Growth Mindset

You can learn anything.

This blog entry is actually a series of videos linked by text that will walk you through the revolutionary idea of the GROWTH MINDSET. Dr. Carol Dweck of Stanford University researched and developed the idea of FIXED versus GROWTH mindsets.

A FIXED mindset believes that talent is something you are born with, and that people are FIXED with a certain set of characteristics, such as intelligence, talent, creativity or behaviors.

A GROWTH mindset believes that the brain is plastic, that people can change, and that learning is a process that anyone can master through effective practice and effort.

And since your beliefs determine your destiny - which mindset is more conducive to achieving, to learning and to success? You got it - the GROWTH MINDSET.

To inspire you, we have included this video from Khan Academy, called "YOU CAN LEARN ANYTHING." Meet you back here in 90 seconds!

Do you have a GROWTH or a FIXED mindset?

Hint: if this video makes you feel excited, you may have a GROWTH MINDSET! If it makes you feel threatened...definitely keep reading - you can change your mindset anytime!

Praise and Mindset - simple phrases to inspire your children!

Dr. Carol Dweck spent years researching praise and how it affects the mindset of children. In under 5 minutes, you will learn to replace "you're so smart!" (a motivation killer) with simple phrases that will keep your child motivated and reaching higher.

You went to school for years, but do you really know how to learn?

This 11 minute video explains how the brain works, how learning works, and how failure is your best friend if you want to be successful. Bonus: how to get control over your amygdala (your what!?!?) so you can get out of your comfort zone.

We hope this post helped you GROW!
