We parents have created an authentic Montessori environment that is guided by the following principles:

    • Mixed age groups which not only offer a wide range of activities to spark children’s interest but also enable children to learn from others and learn by helping others.
    • Freedom for children to work at their own pace, without interruption, choosing from a range of activities that are developmentally challenging and appropriate.
    • Exploration is encouraged so that children find things out for themselves, make mistakes and correct them independently.
    • Respect for each child as an individual personality with unique talents.
    • Respect for others, the community and the environment.

    Acton Spark Studio

    5-7 years old

Be unique, curious and independent. In the Spark Studio children learn and discover through play.

The main objective of Spark Studio is to develop independence and the foundational skills in math, languages (English and Spanish) and practical life necessary to be autonomous and respectful learners in Discovery Studio.

We use the full complement of Montessori materials to give them a concrete, sensory and developmentally ideal experience of learning.

    • Exposure to different materials and activities gives each child an opportunity to understand
concepts on reading, writing and math.
    • Children work at their own pace, setting and evaluating their personal goals each week.
    • Mentors play an important role in this plane of development, they learn from each other and practice concepts
      while teaching others.

We honor our Rules of Engagment:

    1. Respect myself
    2. Respect others
    3. Respect the environment
    4. Be honest

    About the Acton Community

    What is Acton Academy?

Acton Academy was originally started in Austin, Texas by Laura and Jeff Sandefer. They felt that the traditional school system was training their children to tolerate boredom rather than to love learning, to memorize facts instead of think critically, and to submit to authority rather than follow their own hearts' desires.

The Sandefers researched the most cutting-edge, evidence-based, most effective, efficient and fun ways of learning, looking to Heroes such as Maria Montessori, Salman Khan and Sugatra Mitra. They took the best of what they found and combined it into an intentional community of self-directed learners who believe life is more a Hero's Journey than just a career path.

The Acton model in Austin was so successful that they decided to allow other families to replicate it to serve their own children.

    Is this MINED approved?

Good question! We are in the process of investigating the requirements of the Ministerio de Educación de El Salvador and will keep you posted. We are fully accredited by the Association of Learner-Driven Schools in Austin, Texas. We can provide students with official transcripts that they can use to seek entry into any school that accepts a US diploma, including in El Salvador.

    What is the curriculum?

Our learners learn math, English, Spanish, science, civilization, art, music and physical education, just like at traditional schools, but they do it in a more empowered, self-driven way.

Additionally, they learn about themselves - their natural talents and gifts. They learn how to form an idea and how to pitch it. They learn how to set their own goals - and achieve them. They learn that failure and mistakes are part of success. They learn how to govern themselves and negotiate. They learn...

...countless other things that are unique to their own personal Hero's Journeys.

How do I know if this is right for our family?

Please read our site, click the links, and watch all the videos. If you feel curious and excited, plus a little bit scared, then this may be perfect for you.

    What our families say...

    Parent Feedback

"Hemos notado que los niños han desarrollado más capacidad autocritica y tienen un mayor autoconocimiento, por lo tanto, en la práctica, pueden autoevaluarse más." -Feedback at Parent Meeting

"Sus actitudes, o sus hábitos en la casa, van caminando, se sienten bien por poder ayudar e ensenar a los más pequeños." -Feedback at Parent Meeting

"I was very happy with the parent meeting and the open class. We appreciated the goals to be achieved with the classroom activities and the open class helped us as parent to learned these activities and reinforce them at home. Also in the parent meeting we met other parents and this help to strength the sense of identity and belonging with the Acton and Montessori community."

"En las casas, están mucho más interesados en investigar sobre temas de la naturaliza, la vida práctica, etc." -Feedback at Parent Meeting

"Cada niño puede ser el/ella misma y esa realización personal los lleva a ser mejores personas con los demás." -Feedback at Parent Meeting

"We just LOVE it sooooo much! Best experience ever! Happy child, happy parents:-)"

"[My daughter] is beggining and this is the fourth school she has been in since she was two and a half years old, so it was hard for her at first, but Acton proved to be a place most interested in housing happy children (and not only a bunch of students), so they helped her feel welcome and protected. She is beggining to discover that this place is not for her to learn-memorize external things but to develop her own capacities and take over the world of knowledge." -Parent of 7 year old

"Acton Academy is the best school my children ever have attended. Thanks!"

"Best thing so far for us was when our daughter came home this Friday and said she had a lazy week and that she just got 130 points instead of 380 which was her goal of the week. It was amazing for us because she said it in a laughing and so relaxed way whicht showed us that she is controlling her perfectionism so much better and she is not worried about being perfect. She is just enjoying learning!! Sooo happy!!" -Parent of 12 year old
